During the midterm elections, at which time the Obama Administration is under attack by extreme right wing conservative elements of the Republican Party, Yes We Can! Long Island feels compelled to endorse the following Democratic candidates running for national office:
- New York Congressional District 1 Congressman Tim Bishop
- New York Congressional District 2 Congressman Steve Israel
- New York Congressional District 3 – No Endorsement.
- New York Congressional District 4 Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy
- New York Congressional District 5 Gary Ackerman
- New York Senator Charles Schumer
- New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand
Recognizing the limit of our grassroot organization’s resources, the Board of Yes We Can! Long Island will enthusiastically support the campaigns of Congressman Bishop and Congresswoman McCarthy.

Jason, I don't think you have any idea of what you are talking about, so I am through replying. Please stop commenting, as you have made your point.
speaking of the truth, It was Mr. Paulson and Mr. Geitner who FORCED Mr. Lewis to buy ML once BAC saw the worthlessness of ML. Read Mr. Paulson's book, he freely admits it. Or just read the congressional report, its there too. Capitalism works if you let it. Bad banks would just die and good banks would by the good assets. TARP was nessessary for preventing a domino effect but the only bailout the was absolutly nessessary was AIG.
Welfare.
MY folks have never run the world, if they had, we would have never been in this mess. because ther would be no social welfare programs, a 15% flat tax and a limited constitutional governemnt that provides infrastructure, defence and basic social services such as water and trash collection. I dont give a dam about those who look for a handout before trying to pick themselfs up by thier own bootstraps and making somthing of thier life. They are parasites that drain resources from allthose who contribute. social welfare? for the old and infirm. NOTHING ELSE!
Yes, your folks, the folks on Wall Street were running the world, creating the financial crisis we saw in 2008.
It just makes me glad that you and your ideology is just a relic of a past decade. Perhaps one day you will realize times have changed.
You don't see the irony on your support of TARP yet your disdain for social programs, stimulus, and other government spending. No wonder Wall Street is the laughing stock of the nation.
Yes, TARP was a success, as many social programs are a success – and as you should know as well as anyone – projections are not easily made on future economic success or failures.
As Krugman says on a regular basis, the Stimulus package was far to small to expect any large-scale economic boom, but it sure did keep us from a further depression.
Can you give me some supporting evidence of a an economy that spent its way out of a near depression?
The evidence is all around you. If you don't care to know the facts of the world, you are beyond my help, as I am not your researcher.
Progressive organizations like yours are the fastest ticket to America becoming just like Portugal, Ireland, Italy and Greece. Bankrupt and broken because of a high tax welfare state that makes promises that it cannot deliver on. Maybe you have rich benefactors paying your your lifestyle so that you can devote all this time advancing the welfare state agenda. I don't and I work and pay crazy LI property taxes for crumbling roads and bridges, failing schools and bloated county run beaurocracy. Just as Nov. 2nd 2008 was my darkest hour Nov. 2 2010 will be yours. That is at least until Nov 2nd 2012.
Progressive organizations such as YWC!LI must help get the vote out or risk allowing voters to be misinformed by Tea Party activists. For example Tea Party types make it sound like social security will go broke shortly. Yet the reality is that social security is fully funded to 2035 and at that point, without any changes, can still provide 75% of benefits forever. That even Ronald Reagan helped preserve social security for 50 years. Now it’s time to do the next fix. If we allow Tea party types to win elections they will try to destroy decades of progressive legislation. They’d kill social security by underfunding it, giving it to Wall Street or raising the retirement age.
