Yes We Can! Long Island Position Statement on 2010 Mid-Term Elections
Our Opposition to Peter King in Congressional District 3
Some members have inquired as to YWC!LI’s statement that it will not be endorsing or supporting the Democratic candidate for Congress in CD3. YWC!LI categorically states that it is in opposition to Peter King and the reactionary views that shape his policies.
Candidates that enjoy our endorsement have expressed views, supported positions, and taken actions that are in line with the views of our organization.
We expect that those whom we endorse are in a position to seriously contend for the office they seek. It is our Board’s opinion that both NCDC and SCDC have failed in their responsibility to constituents of the third congressional district to identify and support people who represent our values and are viable candidates for Congress.
We are all aware that Democratic incumbents are vulnerable as a result of anti-Obama rhetoric, the Tea Party movement, and the continuing drift of Republican candidates to an extreme right agenda.
YWC!LI’s response to these conditions is to actively support the re-election of Tim Bishop and Carolyn McCarthy and to endorse the re-election of Steve Israel and Gary Ackerman. Bishop and McCarthy are among the focused targets of the conservative right-wing agenda; they require and deserve the support of our entire membership.
