Some exciting news from the White House was announced on Thanksgiving Eve regarding progressives’ efforts to combat climate change and lay the foundation for energy independence and a green economy. President Obama will be attending the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen beginning December 9th.
The announcement goes on to say that the President “…is prepared to put on the table a U.S. emission reduction target in the range of 17% below 2005 levels in 2020 and ultimately in line with final U.S. energy and climate legislation. This provisional target …demonstrates a significant contribution to a problem that the US has neglected for too long.”
We believe that the President’s presence will help the international community work towards a comprehensive, realistic agreement to reduce green house gas emissions and shift world economies to green technologies. We urge Congress to support the President by passing clean energy and climate protection legislation that will put millions of Americans to work and reduce our reliance on foreign oil, while creating a greener future for our country and the world.
