A Message from Jon Cooper

I recently returned from my second visit to Buffalo in two weeks. This followed on the heels of my successful trips to Rochester and other parts of upstate and Western New York. In addition to doing some sight-seeing in this truly spectacular region of our state, I was excited to hold a series of “Meet and Greet” events with local Democrats. I also had the opportunity to meet with numerous elected officials as well as local media reporters.

Over the next few weeks, I plan to travel upstate again to visit Syracuse and Albany. Be sure to check the Upcoming Events section of my website for scheduled events in your area.

One thing I heard repeatedly is that Democrats are becoming increasingly concerned about Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s troubling poll numbers. The latest Rasmussen poll shows that she is viewed favorably by just 39% of the state’s voters and unfavorably by 42%. A new Marist poll has Gillibrand trailing both Republican former Gov. George Pataki (45%-41%) and former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani (51%-40%).
More and more people are looking for a truly progressive candidate to support…someone who will provide a clearer alternative to the Republicans.

My U.S. Senate exploratory campaign has been receiving excellent press coverage in recent weeks, such as the terrific article in Roll Call that set tongues wagging across Washington, D.C. This was followed by the great blog posted on David Mixner’s website, which further fueled the excitement about our ongoing campaign efforts.
