Yes We Can! Long Island 2012I want you to know that on the second day of Rosh Hashanah I delivered a speech in the synagogue in Alabama–a VERY RED state. I was particularly incensed with the analogy that the Palin-Limbaugh-Grassley axis made between the Obama Health Care reform and the T4 extermination program of Nazi Germany, popularly known as the death panel or death list. Several days after I had delivered my speech, I wrote the President and requested that he take the same approach. When one is confronted by nefarious lies such as those propagated by Palin-Limbaugh-Grassley, the proper response is to dissect or analyze the lie—so it does not fulfill the Hitlerian adage: The bigger the lie the easier it catches on.
With my speech, I fulfilled the promise I had made 31 years ago when I delivered a speech upon graduation from high school: that I would somehow help Holocaust survivors. By delivering an address which castigated the use of WW2 and the Holocaust as a cheap political point, I felt as though I kept my promise.
I also did what the President asked us all to do. Now it is up to the President to step up to the plate and confront the “kooks”— the Palin-Limbaugh-Grassley death panel trio.
