* The President’s speech was a great step forward in the national effort to reform a very sick health care system. He has turned the debate back to the facts and away from the last few months of Republican misinformation and political sniping. He explained the issue in everyday language. Let’s get Congress moving on this. We can’t wait any longer. — Tom Suozzi, Nassau County Executive

Perhaps we all need to give the public option a better name. A name that everyone will recognize instantly. A name that the tea baggers can’t use to scare seniors and others who fear that the public option is worse than their current insurance plan. Let’s call it “Medicare plus”.

“Medicare plus” would be for those who don’t have health insurance but are not yet 65. It could be used by those who never had health care insurance, or those who lose their health care when they lose their job or those who are dropped by insurance companies because they have expensive health issues and the insurance companies won’t make a profit.

The public option is critical to help to control run away costs which are non sustainable but let’s not forget :
    -the need for portability
-the need to ban pre-existing conditions
    -the need for universal coverage
