Friends,
A few days ago I invited you to respond to a ‘hypothetical’ notice posted in and around your community. Actually, the posting is real. It has been seen on storefronts in our village. It is reasonable to think the message may soon find its way to other neighborhoods. In case you missed my letter, I recently shared the content of the posting (omitting the gratuitous ‘We the People’ and American flags):
Do you love our country? Do you believe in your country? Do you want your children to know the America your knew? If you answered YES, YES, YES, then NOW, NOW, NOW is the time to act. Come and join the Merrick Tea Party at the Merrick Train Station, Broadcast Plaza. August 3, 5 p.m.
It is time to demand representation from our elected officials. We are faced with issues that are threatening our American way of life. We want leaders who will fight with us against:
- Higher Taxes—designed to redistribute wealth
- Government Health Care—will ultimately eliminate choice. Rationed care and government approval will have devastating effects on survival.
- Cap & Trade—imposed taxes on business will increase costs for consumers
- Weakened Immigration Controls—reversing policy that allows states to arrest illegals for minor infractions
- Gun Control—stripping us of our Constitutional Right
I invited your reaction to this trash and asked how you would respond. Many of you have replied—too many to list your responses here. In essence, people’s reaction is that we must show our strength by demonstrating that these statements are irresponsible and fallacious, bigoted and hurtful.
The (yet to be identified) group taking these ridiculous positions is organizing a demonstration at the Merrick LIRR station, Monday, August 3, at 5 p.m. Let’s assume they will be leafleting and such. We must show up in greater numbers, unbeknownst to them, in order to refute their fabrications.
Join us Monday — no later than 4:45 p.m. — in the parking lot at across from the Merrick Post Office.
Directions: Sunrise Highway to Merrick Avenue. North on Merrick Avenue, pass beneath the trestle for two blocks to Fisher Avenue. Left turn onto Fisher Avenue for one block to the post office. It will be a short (two block) walk to the LIRR parking lot.
We will have signs and leaflets of our own to honestly frame the issues of progressive taxation, health care and insurance reform, immigration policy and gun control.
If you will stand with us, please reply to this email with your name and email address so that updates may be provided.
Thank you. Let’s stand together.
